Winston Churchill by Old Timer & "The Fishing Port of Madeira"
We are pleased and honored to take you on this magnificent and unique journey where you will have the opportunity to discover the entire history of Sir Winston Churchill in Madeira, in the most amazing old timer Chevrolet, while passing by Reids hotel, where Sir Winston Churchill stayed.
In January 1950, Sir Winston Churchill moved to Câmara de Lobos.
The renowned British politician was on the island of Madeira spending a period of rest, and traveled to this fishing town motivated by one of his great passions, painting.
This passage through the then Madeiran town became a historic landmark in the municipality and, years later, the viewpoint where the statesman painted the work “Câmara de Lobos, The Fishing Port of Madeira”, was renamed “Miradouro Winston Churchill”.
Over time, several local establishments refer to this memorable visit in their commercial name. More recently, in 2019, next to this iconic bay, a hotel was opened that pays homage to this figure, called “Pestana Churchill Bay”, where we will toast with a glass of Madeira wine, while remembering his famous words, "Have a Madeira my dear".
The purpose of this tour is not just to talk about Winston Churchill in Madeira but to frame this visit in the Madeiran reality, explaining a little about our history, traditions, way of being… and so on.
Please join us on this unforgettable adventure.
